What We Can Learn

The QR code this router is has some promise initially but it disappoints in the end.  It is large enough to be easily scanned and has a good call-to-action.  Unfortunately, when scanned, the user is redirected to a sub-domain that is not mobile friendly.  The redirection is no big deal but hard to read landing pages are almost worse than none at all.

From a user’s perspective, the QR code placement is not bad.  Adding a shortcut to the product packaging is a great way to add value to the customer experience.  Well, that is the idea anyway.  As a customers, I did not find much value to the QR code that was on this device since the landing page was pretty much un-readable.  If the customer is willing to zoom and pinch their way through the landing page, the content is useful but I think Asus missed the boat on this QR code.

When making your own QR codes, keep the following in mind:

  • Mobile-friendly landing pages are vital to providing a good experience for your customers.
  • When planning a landing page, consider focusing the content on a very relevant feature of your product that would help the customer when they scan the code.
